NEC, a Japanese electronics manufacturer, introduced new android tablets named as LaVie Tab and LaVie Tab S. LaVie Tab have 7-Inch display while LaVie Tab S comes with 8 Inches screen size. However, there are several things to know about these new NEC tablets. The points that might be considered important to customers are described below.
Dubbed NEC Tablets
LaVie Tab (TE507) and LaVie Tab S (TS508) are the dubbed version of previously launched LaVie Tab series with the 7-Inch and 8-Inch displays respectively. It has updated specs as compared to predecessors.
Last year NEC introduced the LaVie Tab(Windows), a 10-inch display tablet with Atom x7-8700 processor. But that tablet is known as premium model with price tag of $600 as well.
While in September 2015, the company also launched two midrange Android tablets of LaVie Tab E family with 7-inch and 8-inch display powered by MediaTekMT8165 and MediaTek MT8165 processors. Both tablets came with midrange specs and price like the LaVie Tab and LaVie Tab S.
However, it seems NEC has now remodeled the midrange Android Tablets and will keep updating every year.
Another thing to know about both tablets is that they are cheap and are in the price range between $188 USD and $274 USD. NEC set $188 USD price for LeVie Tab 7-inch and $274 USD for LaVie Tab S.
No SIMCard Support
Both Tablets only have WiFi support for internet connectivity and lacks SIMCard slot. These tablets come with WiFi a/g/n/ac and Bluetooth 4.0.
The 7-inch Lavie Tab comes with 2GB of RAM, internal storage of 16GB, 1280x720p display resolution, 5MP back and 2MP front facing camera and 3500mAh battery. While 8-Inch LaVie Tab S noted with upper midrange specs. The Tab S comes with Full HD screen with 1920x1200p resolution quality, 3GB of RAM, 8MP back and 5MP front facing camera, 16GB internal storage and 4,250mAh battery. Both tablets feature Dolby Atmos audio speakers.
Qualcomm Snapdragon Processors
The tablets are powered by 64bit-enabled Qualcomm Snapdragon processors. The LaVie Tab S 8-inch comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 (APQ8053) chip having 2.0GHz capacity while LaVie Tab 7-Inch is supported by Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor. Lower scale model is integrated with four while superior model with eight ARM Cortex-A53 processor cores.
Runs Android Marshmallow
Both NEC LaVie Tablets run Android 6.0 Marshmallow which is latest OS before Android Nougat 7.0 which is officially released only for some Nexus devices. While there are more chances that these tablets will never get OTA(Over-the-Air) Nougat update as midrange predecessors have not still received Marshmallow. If you want to have Android Nougat 7.0 on your next tablet then LaVie Tablets shouldn’t be in your list.
Dustproof and Waterproof
Among newly released LaVie Tablets, the LaVie Tab S have dustproof and waterproof design rated by IP5X and IPX2. This feature mostly comes with premium models in other Tablet manufacturers. If this feature attracts you along with cheap prices then it would be in forefront to your choice.
The NEC LaVie Tab 7-inch will be available at the end of this month while the company will start selling LaVie Tab S in January 2017.
